Elsie Mary Wisdom (2 March 1904 – 13 April 1972), also known as "Bill Wisdom", was an English automobile racer. She was one of the first women to win a race for both male and female drivers at Brooklands. Elsie Mary Gleed was born in London, the only daughter of Benjamin Gleed, a shopkeeper, and Emma Avenell Gleed. She had six brothers, who called her "Bill" as she joined in their activities.

But soon he takes up with neighbor Lonnie, whom the brothers had regarded as a pest but who now becomes the great Red Chigger to Ben's fantasy-life Tarantula. Wherever Lonnie is, Ben soon discovers, there is trouble-most conspicuously in the form of the Mannings, two tough older boys who steal their clothes at the swimming hole (a creek here), generally hassle them, and maroon them overnight on an island in revenge for Ben and Lonnie's snitching to the Army about the Mannings' illegal traps.
