I purchased at least 7 books for a San Antonio trip I took earlier this week, and this was by far my favorite. It was reasonably updated and had clear concise thoughts and ideas of what to do and where to go and what to eat and where to stay. I highly recommend (note though that I only used the San Antonio portion of the book).

I wish there were more Austin things in this book. It's mostly San Antonio. We visited both cities during our trip so it was helpful but it was written mostly for San Antonio with Austin as a side/day trip.

I am a fan of the Top 10 series -- a series that has provided me with a quick overview of destinations around the world and a check list of things to remember while visiting an area. I purchased this to help with planning a trip to Austin, TX with the knowledge that its typical brevity would also be its strength. This book, however, failed in even that use. The book contains a 6-page section on Austin and annoyingly, lists the Top 10 things to see around Texas, forgetting to identify in which City the sites are located, leaving you searching map coordinates to find out whether the suggested Top 10 site is in San Antonio, Austin, the Hill Country or Corpus Christi. You can make this book work as an overview of the area, but why do so when you can find more detail and a better "index" in virtually any other book on Austin. I'd pass on this one.

I love the DK travel guides and all their color pictures and diagrams. I always like to get one before I travel to a new place. This book is probably good if you're going to San Antonio, but be aware -- if you're going to Austin, there are only a *very few* pages devoted to Austin in this book!

This book is really a book of "lists" and many are repeats. It's not very light. The maps are the only real reason to get it. There must be better books on SA and Austin out there. And info on times, admissions etc are not here.

We generally quite like the Top 10 series as they are small enough to carry around and normally cover the top sites of a city. We bought this one as we were planning a few days in each of Austin and San Antonio. Austin is definitely an after thought in this book and really does not get good coverage. If you are mainly looking for a travel book for San Antonio it is ok, but if you are spending equal time in each city you should look elsewhere.

Very small book. Little insight. Almost nothing about Austin
Love these top 10 books! Easy to use and find highlights quickly. Map could have been better in this one.
