You might expect nothing less from National Geographic. Their usual excellent photos. The text was written by someone who travelled the trail (roads) and gives up-to-date descriptions of the geography, where and how to find significant historical points, structures and museums. The reality of access and difficulty to locate and reach areas is indicated. Museum hours and features are described in detail. The author made a personal trip along the L&C trail to commemorate the bicentennial. His personal impressions and experiences are included in the narrative. This book makes an excellent guide and is also just good reading from an historical and geographic perspective. Highly recommended if you have an interest in the great Voyage of Exploration.

Using this book in conjunction with another excellent guide, Traveling the Lewis and Clark Trail by Julie Fanslow, my husband and I drove and camped along the actual trail used by Lewis and Clark on their Westward portion of their exploration.

Don't buy from Read4Charity. It was never mentioned in the description that the used book had any odors. We had to put it outside as soon as it was opened because it reeks of cigarette smoke. We can't even open it to read a page to see if it is a good travel guide without the horrible smell wafting out. Going in the trash.

This is the best resource my wife and I have found for taking an auto tour of the Louis & Clark expedition. We used it to great advantage while touring the eastern half of the route several years ago, but lost our copy sometime since then. The replacement copy recently obtained via Amazon.com is already getting worn as we plan our trip trip to explore the western half of the expedition's journey later this summer.

For anyone wishing to visit historic locations along the trail of Lewis and Clark's expedition, this is the best summary you can find. Tom Schmidt does an excellent job of collecting information from the Lewis and Clark Journals and relating this all to the sites we can all visit along the trail.

Excellent guide to the trail that Lewis and Clark followed in the expedition. Easily read and easy to find specific areas.

This book will not answer your questions but it will help guide you on where to look for answers on the National Historic Trail. This is a great tool for all Lewis and Clark fans.
