I am a road trip ethusist. The possibility of identifying for future exploration the 120 most scenic drives in America was intriguing.

I am a road trip ethusist. I have been to about 10% of the trips outlined in this book and when I read through those sections, this book is right. Not only does it tell you where the "must see stops" are, it also tells you approximate mileage, time needed, as well as other useful information for your trip. The drives may be spectacular but you would never know it from this book. The narrative was sparse and uninviting.

An absolute MUST if you take road trips. We call this book our Travel Bible....it is used when in the planning stages, and absolutely in the car on every road trip. We have discovered so many beautiful treasures because of the information and suggestions in this book. Have you ever heard of Escalante Nat'l Park?? We hadn't either, and never would have known about this fabulous hike and waterfall if not for this book. This is just one of dozens of examples, but this book is filled with great information.

I just want to applaud the authors for their thoroughness in not only creating a book that inspires a nationwide exploration of America, but also in the way that the book is logically and easily organized. The book seeks to include relevant information that can be used for the begnning of a road adventure, but doesn't bog the book down in excessive details. A note to potential purchasers: this is NOT a book of elaborate photographs. While some of the photos are very inspiring, they are merely teasers to encourage the reader to go out and make the discoveries themselves. I'm glad I purchased this book. My parents enjoyed looking through it so much that I gave them my copy and purchased another for myself.

I very rarely rave about a travel book but The Most Scenic Drives in America deserves it. This book is beautifully put together with maps, photographs and research on the drives. I have taken most of the drives in the Midwest and East Coast and can't wait to explore more parts of the country outlined in the book. I really like the way the book is laid out by region and each individual trip/drive includes an overview map of the drive with recommendations for the "must see" stops along the route and offers up options for worthwhile side trips if you have extra time in the area.

The only downside of the book is it's size, it is definitely meant to be a coffee table book not to actually take with you. But this hasn't stopped me from hauling it with me across the country!

I am a road trip ethusist. And therefore, when I came across this book, I knew I had to buy it. What I like the most about this book is the careful selected trips the author put together. I have been to about 10% of the trips outlined in this book and when I read through those sections, this book is right. Not only does it tell you where the "must see stops" are, it also tells you approximate mileage, time needed, as well as other useful information for your trip. And flipping through those spectacular trips in the rest of the book made me want to explore U.S. that much more. I highly recommend this book as a starting point, or the main source, for your road trip planning.

I strongly considered returning this book. The possibility of identifying for future exploration the 120 most scenic drives in America was intriguing. The drives may be spectacular but you would never know it from this book. The narrative was sparse and uninviting. The pictures were scant and unimpressive. Maybe my expectations were too great but I feel strongly that this book lacked in fundamental ways. This book will not inspire me to take any trips soon but I did keep it as a basic reference or starting point.

I bought this book for my father, for his birthday. He's retiring and wants to start traveling. I got a fantastic deal because it was a used item. I expected to see a bit of ware but it looks brand new! I was so pleased. It got to me in the time promised. My dad was so excited, he wouldn't put it down and was already pointing out places he HAD to go. :) He has been planning using the web and said many times that the book was better, he found a lot of places he had not seen online searching. A definite GREAT buy! Thanks!

Great traveler's book. Just retired and hope to take our travel trailer on some of these roads rather than taking the normal sight-seeing routes. Beautiful pictures - good details - nice commentary on the places they talk about.
This book was suggested by two sisters who traveled the USA and made great stops along the way and this book helped a great deal. So use this and enjoy your travels, would make for a very nice gift too.
