It informed us that Cretans use the shoulder on the highway just like another lane. Unwritten rule: slower traffic "has" to move to the shoulder, so the faster cars can pass them. If not, you'll have someone glued to your rear bumper on the single lane highway the entire trip.

I should copy and paste my plaudits for the DK travel guides, because they are uniformly splendid in their informativeness and maps, photos, and diagrams. Read this, plan your trip accordingly, and GO!

This book is a perfect size for travelers, it fits nicely in a pocket, but in shrinking the size, the publishers shrank the type as well, to the point where it is difficult to read.

More serious is the lack of organization -- much of the information is redundant and poorly classified. It appears to have been thrown together without much editing.

For larger cities, these defects would render it unacceptable, but it is difficult to find good travel books on Crete, and the content is better than most, which is why I rated it 3 stars.

as always, I love these travel books. If you don't know anything about a location you plan to visit, this is a great place to start.
