Considering we are about to venture into Drupal 8, a lot of books on Drupal 7 are limited since many are not up to date. I was able to progress all the way to the end of this book with only a few problems, mostly because of user error. It teaches you the basics and is in depth so you get a good grasp on the fundamentals of Drupal 7. I highly recommend this book and if you notice the date I entered this review, you will see it still applies to the current version of Drupal 7 and gives you the ability to put together a good site.

I wish this author would put together an intermediate and expert level book on Drupal. He does a very in depth explanation of what is needed to be successful in the Drupal environment.

There were a few areas where I really had to concentrate to understand what he was trying to get you through but all in all, I was able to figure it out.. The book is pretty much on the spot with what you will see in the Drupal dashboard and behind the scenes of configuring your site. I've heard that other books can leave you in the wilderness, but this one doesn't.

Don't let the fact that Drupal 8 is coming out, get this for a good handle on how to create a site in Drupal 7. Knowledge learned from here will fit right into Drupal 8.

This was my first venture into Drupalville, a little play on words, referencing the initial project that you will develop when you follow this book. This book does a great job getting you grounded in the proper way to approach Web projects. The process of Defining what you want to accomplish is spelled out with a critical overview. Anyone with a project manager or business analyst perspective will not be bored as this reminder is often necessary. Those who get charged up can go on the acquire Cindy McCourt's book "Drupal, The Guide to Planning and Building Websites" which I acquired prior to committing to actually learning Drupal.
If you are a developer, you can follow the step-by-step process to install Drupal and get started. The book does not assume that some obscure "Administrator" exists in your world who will "set you up" with an account. You are that person, and you can easily accomplish what is necessary to get started. PC or Mac? Doesn't matter. Local or Remote? Remote is recommended for obvious reasons, much less to do, and help is available. I got impatient and installed it locally with a simple download package. That got me started and I completed enough modules to know this book is excellent. Concomitantly, I acquired a new computer, and I really should start again, following their approach, on the new installation.
I found the Drupal terminology explained very clearly. Even the simple terms are introduced and then re-inforced by the web creation process. One interesting approach is to wait until Chapter 12 to discuss the End User. The whole concept of creating special access web pages (or content) or setting up unique permissions can clearly wait until you know what you are doing. By Chapter 12 you should know what you are doing, and whom your target audience is.
I think anyone can get started in Drupal with this book; you'd be a dummy to buy a different book!

I am not a programmer, and had little experience in other CMS like Joomla, but interested to learn Drupal because of its reputation, and I am glad I did it. Drupal is much more logical and structured than Joomla but also a higher entry barrier too in my opinion. However, it's worth it.

This book fits me a lot with my background. I read the entire book 2 times. The first time mainly reading, and the second time really following the steps and build a website. I believe it gave me a fair knowledge to start on Drupal, but it is still just a start. I believe I need more reading and practice to continue.

Some suggestions for improvement:
The example case used in the book can be another one more practical in normal beginners' lives. Some of steps described were too repetitive wasting pages for repeated steps. This can be shortened and presented in a better way otherwise it is a little bit boring.

After all, it is a nice book and I like it.

This is my first and only Drupal book purchased so far. After reading it, I feel as if I have a good basic understanding of webpage development in Drupal. The authors utilized a very systematic method to teach throughout, which I needed as a new user. The book continues to cover every step of each topic throughout the book so a reader can literally open any page of the book and learn a topic of interest. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is because of some slight grammatical and content errors that caused me confusion in a few places.

I highly recommend this book for those who want to learn Drupal systematically. If one follows the instructions in each chapter, he will learn the fundamentals and build a decent Drupal site. The graphics are very helpful to let one knows the specific configurations and the result he should see. This gives a beginner a great assurance knowing if he has achieved certain goals. I have finished most part of the book. One shortcoming is that the book needs to be thoroughly proof-read before publishing. There numerous inaccurate places in the instructions which could have been avoided by asking a third person ( a tester) to go over the related sections to find the errors and the missed steps. I recommend a print edition for whoever uses this title to learn . One can makes his correction notes on the margins for future reference.

I was put in charge of a Drupal development effort. As I have no Drupal experience (although I have lots of experience with other products), I bought this book to get a weekend orientation. It can easily be completed in a weekend and helped me understand the concepts behind Drupal.
