Hockey Heartaches and Hal by.

Heartaches" is a popular song with music by Al Hoffman and lyrics by John Klenner. The song was published in 1931, was placed on all of the record labels of the time (Victor, Columbia, Brunswick and the many dime store labels), but it was not a particularly big hit at the time. The biggest recorded version of the song was by the Ted Weems Orchestra, with Elmo Tanner whistling. The recording was made in 1933 on Bluebird B-5131 (in a novelty fast rhumba tempo) to low record sales

He went on to coach and manage the Toronto Marlboros, winning two championships.

We have lost some prominent Maple Leafs coaches in recent years, with Roger Neilson and Pat Burns passing away at relatively young ages, and then Pat Quinn - someone we all thought would be around for many more years to enjoy life and hockey. To quote the book Hockey, Heartaches and Hal that I co-authored with Jim O’Leary in 1990: Brophy wore the scars of a violent past but, at first, projected little of his renowned fierceness.

Wendel Clark’s book - written by Jim Lang - also has heart, and heartache, not only for the circumstances surrounding the Leafs’ difficult - and era-defining loss - to Gretzky’s Los Angeles Kings in 1993, but for the Saskatchewan prairie, where he once played a game guided by very little of the cold-viewed strategies employed by modern hockey families.

There was a Boy whose name was Jim; His Friends were very good to him. They gave him Tea, and Cakes, and Jam, And slices of delicious Ham, And Chocolate with pink inside And little Tricycles to ride, And read him Stories through and through, And even took him to the Zoo- But there.
