Moreira has written a comprehensive treatise on one of the basic positions in BJJ. While all techniques are demonstrated with a Gi, enough are viable for no-Gi competition to make it worth while for those type of tournaments as well. When I go through BJJ and grappling books I scan it to see which techniques would be interesting to try and then go on the mat to try them. I marked enough in the book to make it a bargain. It's a good complement to any of the intermediate books on the market.

I find Joe Moreira's book on brazilian jiu-jitsu side mount techniques a useful reference book. It's photograph in clear detailed black and white and it give you a look at Moreira's "SEQUENTIAL TEACHING" style. I have many books on the martial arts some in black and white photo and some in color photo if you are interested in techniques that should not matter. In this book there are over 100 techniques. For the price you can not beat that.

This book is much better than the half-dozen other books on BJJ out at the moment that I've seen. It shows a level of detail that you must have to really work the technique in a live situation, and it gives you the component that other books miss: how your opponent will likely attempt to counter the technique. Chaining your moves together is the key to winning, and this book links techniques up an an easy-to-follow way. I'm very happy with it.

Like all BJJ, the techniques covered here are great for competition but pretty useless in self defense. Still, a worthwhile read.

I've been privileged to train with Master Moreira and am definately going to buy his book.
