This book is no longer in print, however if you can find a company and are interested in getting into running, pick a copy up! Several years ago, when I first began running, I stumbled onto this book and I haven't stopped running since. If you're wondering why runners are so obsessed with running or are looking for some motivation, you can't go wring with this book. This book is about the mind-body connection that runners get. Once you pick this book up, you will not want to put it down, unless you're wanting to go for a run! Terrific book!

I just completed my first marathon and don't think I would have finished had I not purchased and read this book. During training, we had "long runs". The night before each long run (in excess of 17 miles) I would read the sections of this book that addressed issues I was likely to face during the following days long run. That helped me tremendously. The book gave me a sense of calm.

There are virtually thousands of books on the market concerning running. Most of those books however don't spend nearly enough time on the most critical aspect which is mental preparedness and toughness. However, this book gives what most trainig books and groups do not..a way to deal with the mental aspects of running.

This book is wonderful because it gives the reader techniques on how to deal with stress, anxiety, pain, disappointments, setbacks injuries, fatigue etc., all from the MENTAL side. I like how the authors make the connection between mind and body. They focus on the mind first and how the mind can often control the body.

I found MANY useful mental exercises from "breathwatching", visualization, dealing with fatigue and disappointments, learning from mistakes etc., Most importantly, the book focuses on the process of running and self discovery and NOT the result. This book helps novice runners like myself enjoy the process, find our own tools that work for us and realize that it is often mind over matter. This book is a must have for those just starting out "marathoning" or for anyone who just wants to enjoy the mental benefits of running and the pleaseure it gives.

Got this book to read with my running book club. A lot of it is common sense, but I still liked it. It gave me some good ideas for running mantras and reminded me of many reasons why I run. It helped me to remember to think about why I run and not let outside forces affect me on the long runs when I am tired. Simple things like when I am exhausted and bonking at the end of a marathon, when I say to myself "I am so tired" - I need to NOT say "I am so tired" - instead something like "I've got this" - and it works!! I have put this into practice and it has helped. My fellor runners and I are warrior runners and I say it to myself now on many runs. Get the book - it is worth it.

The mental side of racing and training is often neglected. Training your mind can have a powerful improvement on performance. The authors give detailed exercises to help with pre-race nerves, race strategies and post race analysis. Each chapter has a list of positive affirmations applying to the topic discussed. I am a triathlete and I found this book very helpful for helping me to prepare mentally to race.

I've been reading it a section at a time - absorbing, reflecting and applying the info.
Much like Dan Millman's work, this is about the inner journey and competing against one's inner opponent. Running and all that it entails is (for me) a metaphor for life - this book adds another dimension to it all.
Highly recommended.

Too many running books focus on things you need to be doing, which granted are important, but this book's emphasis is about relaxing and running because you love it. My speed and enjoyment both increased notably thanks to this book. A must read for every runner!
