The following is an excerpt from my unreleased book: Remembering The 1994 Vancouver Canucks. I grew up watching hockey on the west coast in the 1980s. I also had a serious infatuation with Soviet hockey players long before they were allowed to play in the NHL. I quickly became a pretty sophisticated fan of the entire league. And I've always had the history.

LOVE THE BOOK. RECIEVED INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEAM THAT I DID NOT KNOW.
I HATE THAT SOME PAGES THAT HAVE WORDS WRITTEN ON THEM HAVE A DARK COLORING AS A BACKGROUND. HARD TO PICK UP THE WORDS ON THOSE PAGES

The book looks at all major Canuck players from 1970 until 2005, giving about a page or two for each one. A lot of good photos of the players are also included, which really adds to the book. It also doesn't just look at the biggest names, but some of the role players the Canucks had, or general fan favourites too, as well as coaches and executives, which is a nice touch. Extra attention is given to the more notable players (Smyl, Linden, Bure, etc), and each decade is given a brief overview as well.

Now it's not a perfect book but it is decent given the Canucks in their NHL history have few legendary players. This is mainly due to the fact the franchise has been very mediocre for much of its life.

I would have liked to see homage paid to the old WHL Canucks even if it was a few token pages so I could read about guys like Phil Maloney (pre-NHL Canuck GM-coach) and Andy Bathgate. Those guys are true Canuck legends.

The photos are first-rate and pretty much the only "history" book that's ever come out on the Canucks, it's a nice primer. I think the main thing that may cause some contention is the choice of so-called "legends."

I'd also say this is more a book for the casual Canuck fan rather than the hardcore as there's not enough meat in the articles to fuel player debates.

I have been a Canucks fan since I was seven years old and I am now 25 yrs old and a greater canuck fan than ever before. I have been waiting for a book like this for over a decade. From the origins of Hockey in British Columbia to the Legacy we have now. I think no one that could have been more fit to write this book than himself Trevor Linden.
