I like the way Toski and Love have explained themselves in this book. I also like that they have not made it into a tome of such dimensions that can hold open a screen door.

Golf teachers often talk about "classic" swings and "modern" swings . How to Feel a Real Golf Swing"; Bob Toski and Davis Love Jr. About the Author.

Golf teachers often talk about "classic" swings and "modern" swings, and sometimes contrast them as "swinging" versus "hitting. It's true that classic swings often require less strength to gain the same results. The key to using less strength is relaxed body movement and smooth rhythm. Since swinging is a mindset as much as a technique, a clear mental image is essential. Sam Snead is a good example, as are players such as Ernie Els and Martin Kaymer. Take some relaxed practice swings. North Carolina native Mike Southern has been writing since 1979.

How to Feel a Real Golf Swing (with Davis Love J., Random House . The body simply turns and shifts to support the motion of the hands and arms., Random House, 1988 Find Your Own Fundamentals (with Jim Flick), Golf Digest, 1992. From this belief came Toski’s philosophy that the golf club should be moved with a swinging motion that is created through the movement of the hands, wrists, and arms. The swing creates a turn; the turn does not create a swing. Toski notes that most golfers use their hands only to hold the club. In reality, it’s the hands that control the swing. They are the primary speed generators; they control the clubface; and they shape the swing’s path.

I'm a relatively new golfer and as such have many doubts as to the proper way to perform a golf swing, I have read many articles and a couple of books on the subject but they usually are very focused on mechanics and each one tries to sell you on it's own particular method. What makes this book unique is the step by step approach it takes in teaching you how to "feel" the proper swing mechanics through a variety of drills that greatly simplify and improve the learning process. You can really tell that the authors not only had a profound knowledge of the golf swing but also had great experience in teaching it.

I ran across this book in a used book store during the off season.I read the first couple of chapters and did the non hitting drills. After not playing golf for two months stopped by the range and the results were amazing. Hit the ball flush and had more control than ever. Continued the non hitting drills for a week then snuck out to the course on a nice day and it all carried over to live play. If i got out of rythme i would do a quick drill and be right back on track. Tied my best score and left about 5 strokes on the course from bad chips and two three putts. Gave it to a friend and ordered a new one for myself. 18 Handicap.
