Trash like this makes me want to vomit. Look, I'm going to make this short and sweet.

* The ex-gay movement is denounced by the APA, and is proven to be both ineffective and psychologically harmful.

In other words, by trying to convince someone through books like this that their entire being is wrong and 'sinful', you're part of the problem, not the solution. Look outside your own ethnocultural sphere and realize that your religion and ideology is no more legitimate than the other ten-thousand ideologies on the planet.

To conclude: We don't want your prayer, We don't want your pity, and We don't want your religious ideology. If my life is so wrong, then do not associate with me; because if you attempt to 'minister' to me, I'll minister my fist to your teeth, especially if your only education on the LGBTQ community is from a book written and published by Exodus International.

With the increasing confusion and concern growing around homosexuality in the church, WHAT DO I SAY TO A FRIEND WHO'S GAY? definitely gives some answers. Emily Parke Chase, whose own husband is an ex-gay, lays out some of the best advice I've ever heard on the subject period. The stories mingled throughout are really what pulled me in and helped me gain a much larger perspective on what is okay to say and what is not.

Chase asks some good questions here - Is same-sex intimacy okay? What do I say when people claim God hates gays? What about gay marriage - is that okay? How do I give hope to a friend who's come out to me? I will admit I was a bit nervous in the beginning. I kept wondering, is Chase going to stick to Scripture here? But as I read, I wanted to applaud Chase for her message of taking hope to the homosexual community while still loving them with tact and friendship.

This book should definitely be on every youth-worker's shelf, and it should be in the hands of anyone who has a friend dealing with homosexuality. This is one of those books that I wish the entire Christian community would read so they can fix their perspective on homosexuals. We are called to give hope through Jesus, yet love while we do it.

As today's evangelical Christian church struggles with the complex issues of homosexuality, author Emily Parke Chase offers a group study book for teens that is suitable for all evangelicals regardless of age.

Coming from a practical background as a Christian counselor, Emily has structured the book as a story that captured my interest. Interspersed into the narrative are accounts from her own experience and the experiences of people she has worked and lived with. Transparent, honest, and most importantly, Biblical and respectful, What Do I Say to a Friend Who's Gay? is an important addition to the ongoing conversation within the evangelical Christian community.

I highly recommend this book for group and individual study.
