From 1970, he worked in London as a community worker, and then as a lecturer at the National Institute for Social Work and Chief Executive at the Community Development Foundation. He was also a founder member of the European Community Development Network, and a Council of Europe Fellow. He has published widely, including Skills in Neighbourhood Work, with Paul Henderson.
Paul Henderson and David N. Thomas have worked in community development since the early 1970s. Most recently, they worked together as directors at the Community Development Foundation. They have also published extensively, both in the UK and mainland Europe.
