George J. Barnsby (c. January 1919–11 April 2010) was an English author and Socialist scholar. He was born and grew up in Battersea, Surrey. Following military service in India and Burma he studied at the London School of Economics where he obtained.

His interest in socialism dated back to his pre-war experiences and his convictions were strengthened by his military service.

The inspiration for this article was George Barnsby's 'A History of Housing in Wolverhampton 1750 to 1975'.

This is a snapshot of the publicly built housing within the town much of which is now owner occupied and some such as the 1960s tower-blocks recorded before demolition

George Barnsby, who has died aged 91, was the pre-eminent historian of the Labour movement in the West Midlands. He was active in politics and served as secretary of the Wolverhampton branch of the Communist party for 20 years and as a member of its Midlands district committee and secretariat.
