This brilliantly conceived and well-organized book is based on a lecture course given by Dr. Leonard Peikoff in 1976, prepared with the help of Ayn Rand and entitled "The Philosophy of Objectivism." Ayn Rand said of these lectures: "Until or unless I write a comprehensive treatise on my philosophy, Dr. Peikoff's course is the only authorized presentation of the entire theoretical structure of objectivism--that is, the only one that I know to be fully accurate."

As Rand's designated heir and foremost interpreter, Peikoff here reveals both the abstract fundamentals of objectivism and its practical applications, covering topics from certainty to money, from logic to art. With much new material that Rand offered only in private conversations with Peikoff, these clear, cogent chapters illuminate objectivism and its creator with startling clarity.

Leonard Peikoff presents a comprehensive overview of the philosophy of Objectivism. He systematically covers all the branches of philosophy, from metaphysics through esthetics, rationally validating his foundations and successively building point by point. Rand's many revolutionary concepts, from the primacy of existence to psycho-epistemology to concept formation to the importance of context and hierarchy, are covered in detail and clearly explained. The base of metaphysics and epistemology leads inexorably to her ethics and politics.

This book should be read by anyone interested in philosophy (which is hopefully a wide as audience as possible). Even for those who don't agree with her, this book will present her actual ideas, which is very rare when her name is brought up in discussions. Read it for yourself and make your own conclusions about her ideas and where she may have erred.

For those familiar with her ideas, this book will reaffirm the importance of ideas in life and will display her truly unique intellect.

It is simply impossible to come away from this book without having learned anything. It is written as a philosophical treatise, but is very readable and thought provoking. Leonard Peikoff is Ayn Rand's chosen heir and the most qualified person and he undoubtedly lived up to his reputation.

It is a carefully and clearly written treatise on the most important treatment of Philosophy. I have always thought, seeing how succesful Mankind is in the growth of the so called exact sciences, as opposed to the catastrophe we have in Ethics and Politics, that these two extremely important subjects should be given to the engineers and scientists responsible for landing Man on the Moon, for their study and development. That is exactly what Ayn Rand has given us. For the first time Philosophy is an exact science. It is simply a Science, if science is knowlege, pure and unadulterated. Thus, Objectivism is all you need if you want consistent and true answers to the basic questions we all have in Ethics and Politics. We can dispense with all the nonsense we were taught. Kant et al can and should be put to rest. They are a ripe subject for Archeologists

Any Rand is the best influential thinker since Aristotle!

This book is not written by her but provides a good summary of her philosophy/ideas and is a great introduction to Objectivism. I recommend reading this book AFTER reading Atlas Shrugged and then at least least one of her non-fiction works (Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, Virtue of Selfishness, For the New Intellectual). Otherwise, some of the concepts discussed in this book will seem confusing.

This is the finest explication of Ayn Rand's philosophy ever written. Not only is this a "must read," but also a "must own," for any student of Objectivism." It is an authoritative explanation that Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand's designated intellectual heir has written of her philosophy of Objectivism.

Having read some philosophical treatises, I was prepared to have to wrestle with this one.
Not the case.
The explanations are very accessible and Peikoff makes a good case for Objectivism. If you're curious about Ayn Rand, but don't want to take the time to read her books, this is a very nice intro/summary.

This book could save the world from horrible german philosophers, those bad ideas causing such damage currently. She is THE antidote to the evil ideas of Marx, Hegel and Kant.
Tyler Is Not Here
The best, most easily assimilated work on Rand's brilliant philosophy. Second would probably be the collection of Branden's early lecture course.
This book is having and amazing positive impact in my life. I am reading it for the 3rd time. You will find answers on pretty much any aspects of your life. This book can be your personal constitution and guide. This book teachings and concepts are far superior to those in the Bible. (No offense to the believers) It is simply a practical guide for living on earth.
