I find this a nice basic first book to help me with the loss of my dad. It covers many different situations, from sudden death to long term illness and death. Throughout the text, it gives many specific examples of people in such situations of loss and how they respond emotionally. Yet, I think that the author's own words have been the most valuable to me - she seems to offer ideas with simplicity and compassion. I have found many sentences that really help me in terms of being kind to myself, accepting of my own feelings, and less isolated in my grief. There is also advice on how you may function as part of a family that undergoes this loss, which I found valuable. This includes how other siblings, family members or the remaining parent may react and how your relationship with them may be expected to respond. I suspect that other books would have similar ideas, but I am very thankful that I found this one I would recommend this to friends and will recommend it to my brothers.

This book is not for you if:
-you had/have a good relationship with your parent(s)
-you have any belief whatsoever in an afterlife
-you are looking for some sort of advice to help you in your time of grief

I cannot tell who the audience is for this book. It offers somewhat of a description of different death scenarios but no advice whatsoever for dealing with it emotionally. In fact, it may make people feel worse. It's as if someone with no expertise or experience wrote a paper about death for a college or high school paper. I have already returned the book.

This book is informative for anyone losing a parent, and how to sort through things afterwards. Both feelings and the parents personal belongings.
Still undergoing the process so still reading and processing. Has been a help during the ongoing stages pending the loss of my father.
