Anna Richardson's Double Vision is an important, timely, and well-written work. Author and publisher are owed a debt of gratitude for bringing us this work. I began the book because the subject is one of interest to me, and was prepared to like it simply because it told an important truth. The book greatly exceeded my expectations, in being so intelligent, thoughtful, and even charming in its treatment of very difficult material. I think it will have a tremendous positive impact on other abuse survivors as well as the general public. It is a book that needed to be written.

Double Vision is the story of a woman remembering the torture she suffered during childhood at the hands of an organized, secretive network of adults, and about her struggle not to become one of the abusers; it is about organized cruelty and the necessity of naming evil. And it is also about loving another woman, building a house and a garden, and the moments of connection which enabled her to endure.Interweaving current observations with excerpts from journals she kept during the three years when the forgotten incidents of ritual abuse were surfacing, the author explores the nature of remembering, the thawing of experiences the psyche had kept in deep freeze, and the processes by which experience is transformed into memory. An argumentative agnostic who unexpectedly finds in a Congregational minister a man who will walk by her side through the valley of the shadow, the author struggles and succeeds in growing a self large enough to hold all that she knows - of the world, of herself - without denial or despair.
