PROCEEDINGS VOLUME 2520. Current successful approaches for achieving soft x-ray lasing typically require pumping laser pulses of duration approximately ns and energy approximately kJ (collisionally pumped schemes) or approximately ps pulses and powers of approximately several TW ( schemes). For applications, it is important to improve the efficiency of soft x-ray lasers and so reduce the required power of pumping lasers.

We report x-ray spectra emitted from plasmas generated by focusing 130 mJ/120 fs pulses of the MPQ Ti:Sapphire laser facility on solid targets. The output energy, the intensity, the near-field beam pattern, and the beam divergence are characterized. Part of the Springer Proceedings in Physics book series (SPPHY, volume 136). LASERIX is a high-power laser facility delivering XUV laser beams pumped by Titanium:Sapphire laser. The aim of this laser facility is to offer to the users community Soft XRLs in the 30-7 nm range and auxiliary IR beam for a broad range of applications. In this contribution, the main results concerning both the development of XUV sources and their use for applications (irradiation of DNA samples) are presented, as well the present status and some perspectives for LASERIX.
