The second book you read on multivariate methods should be one published in the last 5 years.

Multivariate methods are now widely used in the quantitative sciences as well as in. .

Multivariate methods are now widely used in the quantitative sciences as well as in statistics because of the ready availability of computer packages for performing the calculations. A comparison of the various statistical software packages, including Stata, Statistica, SAS Minitab, and Genstat, particularly in terms of their ease of use by beginners. In his efforts to produce a book that is as short as possible and that enables you to begin to use multivariate methods in an intelligent manner, the author has produced a succinct and handy reference.

Each chapter is fairly short, covering only the most essential details, using mathematical formulas only when it is necessary.

Multivariate statistical methods : a primer. Multivariate statistical methods : a primer. by. Manly, Bryan F. 1944-. Multivariate analysis. Boca Raton, FL : Chapman & Hall/CRC Press.

Multivariate Statistical Methods: A Primer has as its stated purpose to introduce multivariate. Jorge Augusto Navarro Alberto. statistical methods to non-mathematicians, intending to keep details to a minimum but still. convey a good idea of what can be done in the area of multivariate statistics. The book takes a practical approach to multivariate statistical methods, with illustrations. utilizing real, varying data sets from different disciplines, thus making it useful for the applied.

The purpose of this book is to introduce multivariate statistical methods to non-mathematicians. It is not intended to be comprehensive. Rather, the intention is to keep the details to a minimum while still conveying a good idea of what can be done. In other words, it is a book to 'get you going' in a particular area of statistical methods.

Abstract: Multivariate methods are widely used in the quantitative sciences as well as in statistics because of the ready availability of computer . This book introduces these methods and provides a general overview of the techniques.

Multivariate Statistical Methods: A Primer provides an introductory overview of multivariate methods without getting too deep into the mathematical details. The original idea with this book still applies.

This second edition has retained all of Professor Manly's crystal clear style. It is based on a course that has been taught successfully at the University of Otago for a number of years but has increased coverage on measuring distances between cases based on presence-absence data, a new selection on logistic regression, new exercises and two completely new chapters on graphical methods and ordination. The author has taken into account the major shift in the way in which computer software is used, but the emphasis is on the underlying principles rather than the use of particular programs.

This is a book that takes a very conceptual approach to teaching the subject. It is fairly non-technical with the objective of introducing readers to the subject. It is not a book that in my opinion that could stand alone. You will need supplementary texts for more details. I read each subject area to get a feel for the material and a conceptual understanding of the techniques and then I read a more substantial book to get into details. I rate it highly because I think it meets its objectives

Bryan Manly is an excellent writer who has published numerous books particularly in the area of permutation tests and resampling procedures. He provides rigor but is not overly detailed. This is the kind of text that would give you a nice overview of multivariate analysis and an appreciation for applications. It also serves as a nice reference source for a refresher on the basics. It would not be used as a course text for a graduate course in multivariate analysis because it is not detailed enough.

This is a great first book to read if you are getting started with multivariate methods. It is very easy to read, has a (relatively) low mathematical threshold, and illustrates results with interesting datasets.

What it doesn't have is solid connections to more recent (last decade) results nor to modern statistical program systems, such as R, SAS or SPSS.

The second book you read on multivariate methods should be one published in the last 5 years. A recent book on data mining would be apropos for the non-statistician.

The book was in excellent condition again it didn't come for two and half weeks which was frustrating.
