I love this textbook! I haven't taken a science class in 20 years and this has been a great book. The pictures are great examples and you can even scan the code to watch videos explaining what you are learning. The virtual field trips are great too. I would highly recommend using this if you are a teacher of Geology.

This is an excellent geology book. It is exceptionally easy to read and understand. The pictures are wonderful, and a slide show of all the pictures is included for teachers to use. I use every one in my Geology class. The explanation of radioactive dating is so good, that I completely understood it myself for the first time and I have been teaching AP Chemistry for 25 years.

After purchasing the book for over $110 Pearson gave me typical pass-the-buck attitude when I was unable to access my course. Although it came with the access code more than 70% of my class could not access the class. They only encouraged us to purchase a separate code in order to access an only slightly different site, which makes you wonder why you have to hand over more than 150 just to gain access to the site you were promised access to in the beginning. And in addition to all of this, the actual site is hardly "intuitive" or any of the words they advertise it with. Mcgrawhill did a better job providing Connect Plus. Give them your money not Pearson, because all they care about is money not education, and that's coming from a finance major

I'm not a Geologist, just an old, retired guy who still has a desire to learn. I live in Southern California but decided to move out of the City when I retired and moved up to the mountains. Rock formations have always interested me, and now I have the time to study them. This book is great. It is written in easy to understand language and is full of fantastic color photos so you can SEE what they are talking about. I'm 66 years old, and still learning. Last year I studied for and received a Ham Radio Operator license --- then six months later I took the exam for the middle level Ham radio license and passed that one too. Before I left the L.A. area I was a Civilian Volunteer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office ---- Another volunteer, a 90 year old guy once told me ---- IF YOU REST, YOU RUST ! I don't plan on rusting! Get this book if you have a desire to keep learning --- it will help!

I had to get this book for my basic geology course. As a first-time geology student, this book was very easy to read and understand. The drawings are spectacular and always relevant to the text. This is literally (literally) the only college text I have ever read, front to back. It helps that geology is of great interest to me. I would definitely recommend this book.

Buying this electronic version of this lab manual was a big mistake. In this lab we have to submit some of the pages from the manual, but this electronic version will not allow to do any printing. I am having to screen capture pages to be able to print them. Also, it can only be read from one device ever. Therefore, I cannot try to print from my PC and then try to read this book from my table in class. I am having to buy the paper version of this manual since the electronic one is totally useless.

I would say that the majority of text books out there are difficult to get through. Clearly that makes it difficult to complete all of the required readings for one's classes. Here is how I know that this book is different: until I started reading it I had no idea that I was interested in Geology. I've really enjoy reading this book and find its content fascinating. I actually look forward to the required reading assignments and have read a chapter that was not in my required reading. That never happens. Consider yourself lucky if this is your Geology textbook.
I am interested in geology and found a later version of this book in a college bookstore. It was too expensive for my level of interest but this earlier version was well worth the price. I'm sure the illustrations are better in the later version but the illustrations in this book were quite good. I really enjoyed the way the "essentials" of geology were put together I really enjoyed the description of the origination of rocks.
