Mind in the Waters joins Mostert's Supership as this year's strongest ecological attack on idiocy & greed, with McIntyre focusing on the slaughter of whales & dolphins. She plunges the reader into the Cetacea family with great, great power.

This book is filled with information on whales and neat paintings and pictures. Reading this book helped me to understand that whales are not worlds apart from me, all I have to do is look in the right place. It has bunches of little life stories that make feel awe, admiration, and a sense of coming together with people all over the world who love and respect the whales. It's a shame this book went out of print because the information in this book can not become out dated

Mind in the Waters, is a major document in the effort to defeat that Biblical belief and to bring about a new culture that restores the sense of belonginginnature of the mostancient human civilizations. In this effort, many of these writers openly or tacitly see the dolphin or whale as a guiding spirit, a laughing gatekeeper to the deep, as he was for the ancient Greeks (delphys means dolphin, delphis, womb).

I wrote this in the early 70's and it became an important part of the world-wide movement to stop the commercial killing of whales and dolphins. The book influenced a lot of people and caused them to think differently about saving species. There is a richness and wonder in the stories in the book which has drained out of the dialogue about "saving" nature, a dialogue now human centered and soulless. Read it, there is much to enjoy here.

This book should be read by anyone who has thought, or needs to think, about life on earth. We humans as the dominant species, because of one singular ability to manipulate destructive tools, need to be aware of our actual relationship with the rest of life on this planet, and of our own insufficiencies, explained with potency in this book.

This is a serious compilation and collection of factual studies, observations, recollections, and hopes and dreams of humans who believe that whales are so much more special than most of us realize. It was written by many authors with the intent of raising the collective consiousness of humanity and to stop the killing of these magnificent animals. Interesting and provocative. As a scuba diver who personnally witnessed an act of kindness by a Grey Whale in La Jolla Bay, I am just another human being who has read and learned enough to believe, that these animals have lived for thousands of years in the oceans of our world with few natural enemies (before mankind), may have more to teach us than we can yet imagine.
