Betty Neels was queen of the nine chapter novel. Her characters would meet and initially not like each other, but the heroine would fall in love eventually and make herself miserable about being in a one sided love affair. Then the hero would decide he was in love with her but he'd have to wait for her to love him. And the tale closed on a kiss and the revelation that they're perfect for each other. This book is the first to have an after word, and a baby. It's heartening because I often wondered how people could procreate if they rarely communicated, much less slept together!

I have read most of Betty Neel’s books but I like this one more than most. This is a lovely romance novel with no sex. Arabella and Titus got married and fell in love and the novel ended with an Epilogue. Arabella was sitting with their infant son and was reading a letter Titus had written while he was away from home. The letter started with “Dearest Love” and included with the happiness Titus was feeling that he was to be returning home shortly to be with Arabella and their son. No sex in the novel but one knows that they have a happy marriage and a son who is adored! I really liked this one!

I remember fondly reading Betty Neels books when I was a teenager, and recently read two (this one and A Bachelor's Wedding).

There is a lot to like. Betty Neels has a talent for making mundane details of daily life seem interesting, Her writing is very descriptive, both of objects and people. I really cared about these characters. And, I liked the pets and the care the hero and heroine had for them.

But, there are also very odd things in this book. The hero and heroine enter into what is a celibate marriage without even discussing the matter. They seem to just take that as a normal and expected situation. There were hints of a family history surrounding the heroine's parents death, but we never got any further details about that.

When I finished both books, I was struck by how alike they were, and what a formula the author had going, the old-fashioned attitudes I attributed to the era in which the books were written. But, when I looked up the original publication date, it was in the 1990s!

So, while not bad books, reading one seems to be pretty much like reading another, I remember now why I stopped reading these formula books.

I love all the old fashioned sweet romances by Betty Neels. I read them all many years ago and am now reading them for the 2nd and even 3rd times on my Kindle. She wrote them all on a formula. Usually a romance between a Dutch doctor or professor and an English young lady. There is always some type of conflict that has to be settled before the happily ever after. No violence and no sexual content.

I have been buying Betty Neels books for my mother (in her 70's) at her request, as an introduction to using a Kindle. I can say without hesitation that she loves all of these books. As she has said, "The plots may all be somewhat similar and the stories quaint, but I enjoy them immensely and find them endearing." What better recommendation could there be? And the Kindle Paperwhite? She loves the backlight and the ability to make the font larger.

I started reading Betty Neels when I was college. The books are sweet, romantic and very very
Chaste (but great fun to read).
They will make you feel happy when you are blue. They.are easy reads. I've spent many a night with
Betty Neels. I just wished I had thought to tell her before she passed on.

Any way happy reading.

I actually found myself loving this book. I believe this was one of Betty Neels originals, not written by those writing for her. I actually purchased this one in large print which was in hard cover. I really enjoyed this book. Plenty of good come back lines from the main character towards the love interest. Wonderful interaction with the love interest (or the to be love interest) I love that the character was quite independent.

I recommend this book
An other wonderful story by Betty Neels. I enjoyed it tremendously, just like most of her stories. Nice and clean.
