Lilah and Suzanna: The Calhoun Women is by Nora Roberts. As usual, she writes a powerful book which is realistic. Her characters come alive and the story is always suspenseful. This is actually two books in one.
The first book is For The Love of Lilah. The Calhoun sisters are fed up with the press and the coverage of the missing emerald necklace. They know the story of Bianca and Christopher but don’t know where she hid the necklace. Already, a thief has been looking for the necklace and Amanda was almost hurt. People have come into the gardens and tried to dig up the treasure. Lilah has picked up a treasure map as she talked at the nature center. What she doesn’t know is that she gave the map to the thief when he came to take a tour and talk to her. A few weeks ago, Lilah knew a storm was brewing and went down to the beach to watch it come in. She just happened to be there when Max Quartermain was nearing shore and almost drowned. She managed to get him to safety and up to the house. He refused to go to the doctor as he felt fine after waking up. He just didn’t remember things that happened recently. He didn’t know that he had taken a summer job to catalogue papers Mr. Caufield said were his family papers. Until he inadvertently overheard Mr. Caufield and the Captain talking about stealing the papers and ultimately the jewels, he had no idea he was in trouble too. When he does remember, he starts helping the family with their papers and hopes to help find the necklace; but only if Lilah and the other sisters are out of harm’s way. He wants to help the police find Mr. Caufield or whoever he is impersonating now.
The second book is Suzanna’s surrender. Max has found out that Bianca’s lover, Christian, had a son and grandson who lived in the cottage he did. His grandson, Holt, is a retired police detective who now lives in the house but he has never heard the legend. He has trouble believing Suzanna about Bianca and Christian’s love when she first confronts him about it. He said he would reconsider if he ever believed it to be true. When he finds Bianca’s portrait among his Grandfather’s paintings and sees that Lilah is the image of her grandmother, he believes and offers his help. Mainly he wants to make sure Suzanna and her children are just fine. After talking to the Calhoun women and their husbands, he sees the danger is real so he hires on as a part time employee at Suzanne’s gardening center. Can he protect her and her children?

This was a follow up book and it was as good as the first one. There was some suspense and energy
and keep it going throughout the book.
All four sisters were served well by this book.

Already posted a review but must not have gotten posted. I loved the book. Read it already and was wishing there had been more sisters so the hunt for the emerald necklace could have carried on a little longer.

I read one of the Calhoun stories in a book I got from a yard sale. There is nothing worse than knowing there is more to the story and you don't know how it ends; this story ended well for me after I found the series on Amazon!

Wow, I would have never guessed that this was a used book. It has been well taken care of. I have been reading this Calhoun series and this was the only way I could get the next book, by buying it from another source, other than a store. I am happily surprised how it arrived.
Nora Roberts connoisseurs have their favorites. The Villa. The MacGregors Series... The favorites list is huge because Nora Roberts knows how to describe life and relationships with a verve and finesse that make her work honored even outside the categorical romance fiction to which she has been labeled. The Calhoun Women Series ranks a "favorite" status. You will laugh out loud, you will smile, you will tear up...and then when you have finished the series you will want more.
