Christianity and other religions documents Christianity's relationship with other world religions, and the differences and similarities. Evangelical Christians believe that religious pluralism is heresy and contradicts the Bible.

Christianity and other religions documents Christianity's relationship with other world religions, and the differences and similarities. Some Christians have argued that religious pluralism is an invalid or self-contradictory concept. Maximal forms of religious pluralism claim that all religions are equally true, or that one religion can be true for some and another for others

Christianity is the most widely practiced religion in the world, with more than 2 billion followers. The Christian faith centers on beliefs regarding the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Very little is known about Jesus’s childhood. Scriptures reveal that he grew up in Nazareth, he and his family fled persecution from King Herod and moved to Egypt, and his earthly father, Joseph, was a carpenter. Jesus was raised Jewish, and according to most scholars, he aimed to reform Judaism-not create a new religion. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Christianity and World Religions has fallen out of publication partly due to weaknesses in the text and partly due to cultural changes.

The text itself is somewhat disorganized. Points are repeated and the subject changes from one topic to the next without much guidance for the reader. Sometimes esoteric academic disputes are dealt with in depth while whole religious histories (pre-Colombian South America) are not even discussed. While Dr. James certainly brought an immense amount of erudition to his writings, in this work he failed to make it into a coherent picture.

Culturally, Dr. James portrayal of all non-Christian religions as either false or preparation for the gospel is sure to grate against most contemporary readers. Similarly, his axiomatic acceptance that there is a reality behind supernatural phenomena will look somewhat naive to a reader not raised in a community where religion is a given.

I also have to note that, due to the brevity of the text, I had difficulty following Dr. James when he discussed religions unfamiliar to me. Other readers may have a different experience.

Recommended if you have a lot of leisure time and are interested in these kind of topics.
