MYSTIC APPROVED ;-)
...purchased a first copy of this fine book back in 1996. It is not the type of book one reads and sets aside. Like many other successful books that turn up spiritual gems, which this book most assuredly is, it is a "companion" book to nurture and guide the human spirit along life's journey. For twenty plus years, this wonderful anthology has been close at hand, constant source of light and truth. Indispensable material for any serious practitioner of the inner life. A must have.

This is an excellent, though not superior anthology of spiritual writing that covers many of the viewpoints of the various religions around the world. Being an evangelical Christian, I did not agree with everything here, but was blessed, comforted and uplifted by most of the book, even those areas that had to do with non-Christian religions.

I dropped the book to 4 stars instead of 5 because of the inclusion of the essays which espoused using mood-altering drugs to achieve spirituality. I do not believe that that is an appropriate method. Our minds must remain clear to have success in achieving spiritual enlightenment.

After reviewing this item, I decided it would be instructive to discover where the various authors of the essay were as far as religious beliefs. I didn't do an in-depth study, just what was easily found.

I found that most of the Protestants were members of the "non-evangelist" denominations such as Episcopal and Lutheran. Only one or two were from the evangelical denominations.

A very large and absolutely fantastic collection of contemporary spiritual writing put together by Lucinda Vardey. If you are interested in modern interpretations of God from EVERY religious and spiritual point of view, this is a great, BIG, introduction to a huge number of authors. Apart from anything else, you could save yourself a huge amount of time and money by buying this book!
Lucinda Vardey has divided the writings into 6 sections: The Quest, Revelation, Trials, Surrender, Death And The Etrernal Life, Awe, and sub-divided each of these sections into another 3 or 4 sections. I was already familiar with a handful of the huge number of masterful contributors, such as the "non-guru" Krishnamurti, physicist and Eastern mystic Fritjof Capra, rebel priest Matthew Fox, Zen writer Alan Watts, Christian and Narnia legend C. S. Lewis. But after intitial introductions through reading pieces in God In All Worlds, I went on to purchase or borrow books by holocaust survivor Viktor E. Frankl, Gary Zukav and Ken Wilber.
Several years after being bought this book, I am still occasionally dipping into it and discovering some new perspective on who or what God may be. Thank you Lucinda.
