Despite what the low star rater said, this book is absolutely about hedge witchcraft, not kitchen witchcraft. As a practicing hedge witch, this book is one of the most accurate on the market albeit brief. Hedge riding is a trance like state where one passes over to the Otherworld to seek guidance and this is exactly what Harmonia discusses in this book. She makes it very clear that what sets apart hedge witches from others is hedge riding (page 9): "Many people will call themselves hedge witches but the true hedge witch will practice the main feature of hedge witchcraft -- hedge riding." Furthermore, she goes on to accurately yet briefly explain hedge riding; and I quote: "When hedge riding, the hedge rider's consciousness travels to another place, the otherworld, which is also the realm of collective unconscious. There she or he encounters archetypal symbols and assimilates this knowledge to help guide her or him on their pathway. Riding to the spirit realms is achieved by entering an altered state of consciousness... The hedge witch rides to the otherworld to seek help from the spirits and elementals that reside there for healing, strength, spiritual enlightenment, protection..." (pages 10-11.) Hedgecraft is based on the traditions of the wise/cunning folk who were healers and diviners. Harmonia talks about all of this, in a very brief way. That means we hedge witches work with herbs, trees, and the elements and perform natural magic with respect to the seasons and moon cycles. We combine these practices with hedge riding and other forms of divination.

Kitchen witchcraft is a form of witchcraft practiced concurrently with tasks centered on the kitchen, such as cooking and baking, and making use of readily available items for rituals and spells rather than purpose-bought or purpose-made elements. Not once does Harmonia mention working in the kitchen for any reason. Not even sure she mentions cooking to be honest with you! In fact, she repeatedly talks about working outside with nature and working with the deities connected with your local surroundings. So I am not sure why the other commenter says this is a book on kitchen witchcraft. They also mention Rae Beth's book is about kitchen witchcraft, but again it is not either. Beth's book is about solitary Wicca. Harmonia's book has nothing to do with Wicca or kitchen witchcraft. Zip. Zero. Nadda. It does, however, have to do with her tradition of hedgecraft which has Irish influences. This book does not continue to perpetuate the confusion, but in fact sheds light on a little discussed tradition of witchcraft. It is disappointing others have liked the misinformed post.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in hedgecraft. It is very short and therefore only a brief introduction, but it is worth the read. I am looking forward to reading her accompanying book Hedge Riding.

Thank you!

Liked it lightly delves into internal hedge switcher. Not an instructional textbook but musings and pedestrian in the good sense of being thoughtful not categorically bossy

Okay for beginner. Nothing here that's not already in dozens of much better books. This takes only about an hour to read and seems more like a long magazine article than a book .
CopamHuk
Nice little book explaining hedge witchery - not a great deal of info, but perhaps good intro.

too short
