Characteristics of Multiproblem Families The multiproblem family has a number of problems which cut across many dimensions of family life (Kaplan, 1986, p. 1). These problems affect the individual, family, community, and society. Ac- cording to a study by Fanshel, Finch, and Grundy (1992), a list of the most prevalent‘problems include: income, housing, parental help, child behavior, family relationships, education, foster care, and physical health. Multi- problem families tend to be socially isolated and unconnected with the community, and many are in need of social skills training to help them locate and utilize resources and supports.
