This is the most comprehensive and highly recommended resource for Christian writers, agents, editors, publishers, publicists, and writing teachers on the market today. A must-have reference tool for anyone looking to break into the Christian publishing market, the guide is filled with information on more than 400 book publishers; 600 periodicals; and extensive listings of agencies, writers’ conferences, workshops, groups, and tips for publishing in the Christian industry.

This is what you need! Always double check the editor, publishing house, or contest website. People in the writing industry move around a lot and you want to make sure you address the correct person in your query letter. Even if they've moved, you can get an idea of what the house or agent is interested in. Just really makes me sad how many Christian magazines don't pay their contributors! The Bible has lots to say about a worker deserving his wage. (heavy sigh) Anyway, this is a great book!
This has more information than most writers probably need but that's okay! Though Sally Stuart has since retired from writing this book, and I haven't checked out the 2013 edition yet, I'm confident that the quality is the same. The only thing different about this edition from previous editions was that the references were on CD-ROM, which didn't come with my copy. I wrote Ms. Stuart, explaining the problem, and she kindly sent me a free copy of the CD-ROM. It took me a couple of years to get first a new netbook to replace my old desktop, then an external hard drive to load the CD-ROM onto my netbook, but even though it's outdated, there's still useful info on it. In the rapidly changing world of writing, one needs to have the best resources possible, and I highly recommend this book.
The Christian market is so top-heavy with submissions that breaking into it is almost impossible without insider connections. Virtually all markets - nonfiction, novels, and shorter works - want an agent. In the current electronic-self-publishing atmosphere, agents are hard to obtain. You might get in with a recommendation from some insider or a personal contact at a convention. Otherwise, this is a good source-book. Although the 2010 edition is now outdated, 90% of the data is accurate. Be sure to check any listing against a current web site.
I've been writing query letters for three years now. I thought I could do it on my own. I could not have been more wrong. This book tells you everything you need to know in one place. It shows you who wants to look at the type of material you write and who doesn't. It helps you stop waste time and resources.

I've not gotten an acceptance yet, but I now have the right tools to get one!
Sally Stuart has done all the work for writers. You can find anything by topic, publishers, or genre aa well as lots of other things, like contests... This is an excellent resource so you don't make the mistake of sending a short story to an academic publisher and vice versa.

Sure you can browse the internet and spend hours on publishing websites and keep a notebook of your virtual journey but isn't there a better way to procrastinate?!

Thank you, Sally, for my new address book for writer's world - you are the best!
The guide is filled with information that any new author must have - and would never know how to find. It is an incredible resource to find publishing companies, literary agents and to understand where and how you can submit your writing ideas for books and magazines. Excellent!
I've been using Sally Stuart's Christian Writers' Market Guide since I became interested in freelance writing. No freelancer should be without it. It's important to get the updated Guide every year because the writing world is constantly changing. Magazines are going out of business, and new agents and book publishers come on the scene. As I said, this book is indispensable to the freelance writer.
i wish I had bought this in January! this has great contact info. It also gives a great list of periodicals to write for. I will buy this regularly from now on.
