Excellent book that clearly reviews Russia's foundational grammar to take learners to intermediate stage. If you are patient, willing to work over time and systematically build your knowledge then by using this book as a consolidator to the Penguin Course and Daphne West's Teach Yourself Russian you ought to end up with a very strong platform after about 18 months on average. If you're just looking for a few tourist phrases then that's something diferent. This book builds confidence and accesses a fairly complex system that needs constant review and reinforcement. Lots of explanation to assist with grammar points with those all vital simple examples to illustrate meaning.
A very good book, well organized and presented. Exactly what I needed.
This book really helps a lot, especially for those beginner Russian speakers out there, they give you many exercises so that your Russian skills will only get strong
I'm Russian and my wife's not, she's learning Russian and she's using this book a lot when I'm getting lazy explaining stuff.
According to my son's tutor, this copy has egregious spelling errors in it. We received a 2012 edition that was a 2014 printing. My son's tutor has the same edition, but his printing is 2016. Obviously, the errors were fixed between the printings. However, there is no record of when the corrections were made. Even the publisher couldn't tell me. The tutor got his 2016 copy in the U.K. I've been unable to fine a 2016 copy in the US. What should have been an easy purchase has caused me hours of time calling Amazon and book publishers to try to figure this out and find a copy without errors, and I still have yet to find one.

***FWIW, Amazon customer service has been amazing and as helpful as they could possibly be with the issue.
All important spects of basic Russian grammar are presented here in very clear, well ordered format. each section covers a different topic, with a clear explanation, and a few simple exercises to trest your understanding. If you need a review, are looking for a supplement to your school text, or are talented at learning languages and want an intro to Russian grammar I can absolutley recommend this book as the best of its kind.
This is the first Russian grammar book I picked up and it's quite good, but Schaum's is better. Don't get me wrong, I've used and can recommend both, but if you only want one, get Schaum's Outlines of Russian Grammar by James S. Levine instead of this one.
I took Russian 1 last spring. I found this book to be somewhat helpful but I don't think the CD is much help for someone starting fresh. I was disappointed.
