André-Aimé-René Masson (4 January 1896 – 28 October 1987) was a French artist. Masson was born in Balagny-sur-Thérain, Oise, but when he was eight his father's work took the family first briefly to Lille and then to Brussels.

He began his study of art at the age of eleven at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, under the guidance of Constant Montald, and later he studied in Paris. He fought for France during World War I and was seriously injured.

André Masson was a French artist, who represented Surrealism movement. In 1915, with the outbreak of World War I, Masson joined the French Army and fought in the battles of the Somme. He sustained a serious chest wound and was hospitalized for an extended period. Deeply traumatized by his wartime experiences, the artist also suffered a spiritual crisis and was briefly confined to a hospital for mental illness.

Lived 1919-22 in the South of France, then returned to Paris where he met Gris, Derain, and later Miró and Breton. First one-man exhibition at the Galerie Simon, Paris, 1923.
