No matter how much French you took in school, translating French into English is often challenging. This book takes on those challenges, removes doubts and inspires confidence. For example, literal vs. figurative translations are compared. The book carefully distinguishes the specific issues connected with the translation of legal texts, poetry and literature among many other genre. The merits of this book are too abundant to be mentioned here - get a copy and see for yourself.

Used this in a French Translation class and the book pretty much explains everything you need to know... the rest really depends on your professor. Wish it was cheaper on Amazon

I am going to be returning this book. I have been a vital docs/legal docs translator for 18 years. This book is larded with difficult to understand jibberish. All of it educational jargon. This is a college text, for sure, but it is not for me as a translator. I can see the possible use for translating literature or news articles, but not for what I do.

Thank you so much! It's condition was near perfect. I really needed this for my French Translation class.

I like it. Very nice.

I'm sure I will sell this book to the campus book store at the end of the semester for just as much as I paid for it if not more!

The seller was very responsive and listened to what I needed. I really appreciated their help as ordering books can get stressful at the beginning of a school semester. Will use again! Many thanks
I was a little disappointed by this book. It put technical words to concepts I already knew and had been practising in my translations. I wanted to be introduced to new ways of looking at the text. But I've found that simply practice has taught me better. Perhaps this book would better suit those who are very new to translation, or are not themselves writers in the field they're translating.
