The dynamics of an organism is described by means of a discrete time transformation τ on the phase space of the system. The statistical behavior of τ is studied by means of its Frobenius†Perron operator which, in special cases, can be represented by a matrix. However, fractal and deterministic dynamics provide a new approach to the study of ion channels that should be seriously considered by neuroscientists.

Although numerical analysis and nonlinear dynamical systems appear to be incompatible, both these approaches to increasing our mathematical understanding are mutually dependent.
