All in all, General ultrasound in the critically ill provides a key for practicing a kind of visual medicine. Since 1990 Daniel Lichtenstein has been an intensivist in a medical ICU which already occupied a pioneering place in echocardiography. He has from the beginning devoted his efforts to the development of general ultrasound. He regularly publishes studies on lung ultrasound, his main topic, in the international literature.

This book by Daniel Lichtenstein, intensivist and r, perfectly illustrates this progression in the field. The author’s experience has in fact been enriched by daily work at the bedside of patients hospitalized in Ambroise-Paré Hospital’s ICU. Among these new contributions, let us cite in particular lung ultrasound, a discipline that Daniel Lichtenstein has thoroughly described

This book shows just how critical ultrasound has proven to be in satisfying a major concern in the intensive care .

Daniel A. Lichtenstein, Michael R. Pinsky, F. Jardin. Written by an intensivist familiar with ultrasound, this book describes a new clinical tool: ultrasound for the intensive care and emergency physician. It specifically details findings of immediate clinical relevance throughout its pages. This volume is not only an exhaustive atlas dealing with the most variable aspects of the critically ill patient, but it is above all a guide, a permanent aid in the therapeutic decision. This is the perfect primer for ultrasound use in the ICU by non-radiologists/cardiologists. It provides an unbiased, non-commercial view of the technology and what is important (and what is not!). Excellent illustrations and image captures complement an easy to read text. I call it a must have for Critical Care physicians who are interested in learning how ultrasound at the bedside improves patient management and safety.

Although i very much admire the work and pioneering spirit that Dr. Liechtenstein is conquering new frontires, i must admit that book is not that well, written.
Dont get me wrong: the topic is super-hot, very useful, but the book not exceptionaly clear or paedagogic. Maybe an USA-minded CO-author would help to present, the very important concepts presented in this book, more clearly.
All in all, still very desired book, and I feel happy to have bought it!
