Mostly just the same standard Netter drawings available in the atlas with brief descriptions of the relevant anatomy for certain cases. Does not add anything you can't get from the Netter atlas you used in med school. I would not buy it again.

This is a new surgical atlas, and I've been quite impressed so far. It's written by a number of well-known surgeons, and it encompasses a range of surgical procedures. The sections are the neck, endocrine, upper GI, hepatobiliary, lower GI, hernia, vascular, emergency procedures, breast/oncology, uro/gyn. There are about 55 operations that are covered with this book.

The diagrams are nearly all from Netter, and many of them are not in the well-known Netter atlas. Some of the pictures were specifically drawn for surgeons and have useful perspectives that the regular atlas does not depict. Some images specifically show the steps of the procedure (like a carotid endarterectomy). There are also some non-Netter images that are drawn in his style and complement the book well. There are also some good quality intra-operative photos along with radiologic studies (cholangiograms, CT scans, etc). There are also videos on the companion website, and while I only looked at 2-3 of them, I did not think they were that helpful (narration was very limited, steps were glossed over).

I've looked through a number of well-known surgical atlases and think this one compares quite favorably and would personally recommend it over the other ones I've looked at. I would have to say the one downside of this book is that the text descriptions of individual steps are sometimes quite sparse. Since I prefer to see pictures rather than read descriptions, this isn't a major factor for me.

I was most interested in abdominal procedures, maybe the coverage of other material is more adequate. This had a - few - images from the standard Netter books, and minimal explanation of the surgical procedures. I looked quickly through other sections, and at a glance my impression was the same.
