by Alan Stevens MBBS FRCPath (Author), James S. Lowe BMedSci BMBS DM FRCPath (Author). I found this book incredibly useful when it came to learning about histology for certain exams. The content is definately easy to get into and it's full of pretty little pictures. The authors appear to have a pesonality which is a rare pleasure these days (having had a lecture by one of them).

This book is probably the best undergraduate pathology text book around.

As also demonstrated in their text on histology, these authors really do understand undergraduate needs and address them so eloquently. This book is probably the best undergraduate pathology text book around.

In some cases, they seem too small and in other cases, they seem too tightly cropped

In some cases, they seem too small and in other cases, they seem too tightly cropped. George K. Niiro, PhD(Midwestern University). Throughout the book, there are examples of correlations with clinical syndromes, which is extremely helpful. These are explained in simple terms that require no underlying knowledge of medicine or pathology and give good background to learning more about disease. In comparison to other histology texts, this book is quite text heavy and so if you want a purely visual aid, this may not be the book for you. It is a textbook and not a histology atlas.

This textbook was developed to respond to the increasing focus on cell biology, computer simulation and clinical material in todays histology courses. The book integrates concise text, excellent quality color and black-and-white photographs, and improved three-dimensional artwork of histologic structures. It is the only book available that focuses strictly on human tissues. In addition to practical histology boxes, which help students relate material to lab work, it contains clinical histology boxes with information relating to medical practice, advanced concepts boxes or the ambitious student and key fact boxes.Spanish version also available, ISBN: 84-8174-282-1

Just for using human tissues this book is wonderful. Enough for monkey, pig, rat or horse tissues. Besides, the proposal of discarding the old classification of tissues and instead use now an cellular approach is very appropriate. And above all clear and precise descriptions. This book would be better with more mollecular details, and more information in morphology; but it ouststands many other books in the field.

This may seem quite strange but it is true.Reading this book i was totally terrified that histology could be a dificult and demanding task to deal with. But to my own surprise, i surpassed this obstracle with the help of another totally unknown book called " Basic Histology" by Adonis Kalligaropoulos.I recommend it to you if you want to acquire a clear and simple idea of histology and take an A in your exams.

I bought this recommended book for my Histology class at the University of Copenhagen. At first it was fun to read the authors' dedication of the book to different winemakers, but eventually I grew tired of the endless joking around. The actual core text is not very in-depth but the illustrautions are beautiful, thus the mediocre rating. And another thing, the book is useless when it comes to the central nervous system.

I think this book is one of the best in the market. The information is straight forward and easy to read. Everything in this book is very well organised.
