Vernon Egger is Assistant Professor of History at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Georgia. He lived a modest life, jailed many times for his views and died followig abdominal surgery in the Coptic Hospital in Cairo after a full life of achievements. Unfortunately very few of his works has been transalated from arabic. He was born in 1886 and not 1889 as mentioned by an otherwise, excellent and unique book.

The first book-length analysis of Salamah Musa (1889ó1958), who provoked and astounded Egypt for decades with his trenchant criticism of the nation's social order. The book demonstrates that underlying Musa's ideas was his advocacy of the interests of an emerging technical and administrative elite which attempted to carve a niche for itself in Egypt's agrarian society.
