Also good to read for any would-be Writing/English teachers, no matter how far along they may be (for me this is my second semester.) I am learning a ton even if it is directed more at "Writing Centers" than "Tutoring Centers." I may end up keeping it at work to read an reference when needed,

I enjoyed many of the essays in this collection. I will be teaching a consultant-training class for the first time next semester, and will certainly be sharing many of these essays with them. I like that it contains more updated information and ideas; even though the fallback essays from Stephen North and Muriel Harris are certainly necessary in a consultant-training course, essays like the ones in this collection also hold their place in Writing Center theory and practice.

This book gives you helpful insights into becoming a good writing tutor. It links everyday tutoring sessions to theory and good practice. I like the way each chapter is set up: 'Introduction' to a problem or concern a tutor might have in an interesting anecdote or descriptive writing, 'Some background' provides a context from literature, 'What to do', and 'Complicating matters.' This makes it a fun read, and the language is accessible too. Love this book!

Even though the essays reflect current research, they offer practical and straight-forward advice. I'm ordering a copy for all the consultants at my Writing Center!
