Written for the beginner in Music reading and writing as well as Music Appreciation, This book is used by MIT's OpenCourseWare free online courses, which is what I bought it for, and I'm so glad I did. I do wish I had ordered the CD; there are songs and works referenced in the book that are not available on YouTube or Naxos, that do come with the CD. I highly recommend this book for casual and beginning students of music literature, history, composition, and appreciation.

I bought the book new, but it came with minor bends, dents, and water damage (???). Not only that, it was supposed to include the CD's, which I really needed for my Music Appreciation class. Besides that, the book is fine. However, if you're looking for this book to come with the CD's/DVD set for your class, DO NOT buy this book.

I was able to pick up this book for $8 out the door with expedited shipping. The book was in better condition than was stated. It is practically a new book that I received, and the seller listed as in "good" condition. Sealed DVD was still in the back of the book as well. I am very happy with this purchase. I am not commenting on the quality of the text of the book as it is required for my class regardless. But thus far it seems to provide the knowledge needed for me to excel in my class.

The book came fast, and the quality was very good. It really helped for my classes and the material is really great, especially with the low prices that many of this books offer. It worked great for my UCLA class, and It saved me from bad grades and suffering from being screamed at for not owning a good book for my music class!

great product got exactly what I ordered when it was scheduled
Listen, is a college book. I've been using it to take music appreciation. This book has good examples and a cd. The terms will have to be memorized to understand the book. The explantions of those terms can be a bit dry but if you're willing to sit down and understand, then you will find this book a good learning material.
