Denne Bart Petitclerc (May 15, 1929 – February 3, 2006) was an American journalist, war correspondent, author, television producer, and screenwriter. Born in Montesano, Washington, Petitclerc was five years old when his father, Edmund Petitclerc, reportedly took him to Seattle to see the angel atop the Bon Marché department store Christmas tree. His father told young Petitclerc to watch the angel and that he would be right back. He abandoned the family and never returned.

26 - Denne Bart Petitclerc, whose letter to Ernest Hemingway in the 1950's yielded an invitation to go fishing and a friendship that included adapting "Islands in the Stream" for film, died here on Feb. 3. He was 76. The cause was complications of lung cancer, said his wife, Wanda. Mr. Petitclerc thought it was a joke when Hemingway called the newsroom a week later, saying he had written a good letter and inviting him to fish in Cuba. On one of their fishing trips, Hemingway mentioned an unfinished book he thought would make a great movie: "Islands in the Stream," which was finally published nine years after his death in 1961.
