Steve Ovett, along with Sebastian Coe, continued the grand heritage of British middle-distance excellence on the world stage in the 1980s. In the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, Ovett garnered a gold medal in the 800m and bronze in the 1500m in highly-anticipated races against his British teammate.

His autobiography is one of the most honest books ever written by an athlete. It is important to note that Ovett was still an international competitor at the time it was originally published.

Known to be highly opinionated - and because of that, feted by his fans as a "people's champ" - Ovett tackles with vigor such issues as his rivalry with Coe, the Moscow Games boycott by the United States and fallout with his family when he decided to get married.

Ovett emerged as a public figure when he captured a gold medal in the 1973 European Junior Championships, but handled the fame with style & grace. Though a difficult book to find, it is a great read from start to finish.
