A follow on of Pak Six. Fictionalized aftermath of returning to the peacetime service, being divorced, retiring to civilian life. A struggle with alcohol and a new, more dangerous foe.

G.I. Basil is an outstanding writer. I have read Pak Six which was his first novel, I believe, and that was a great book on the VietNam Air War. Basil's ability to write is exceptional. The pace of his novels keep the reader well connected with the story line. Basil had to be drawing on his life experiences completely to pull up the 'on target' descriptions that he was recording. This is a novel by a 'man's man' which is a bit of a lonely voice out there in today's world. Basil's written words have impact and relate to anyone that served in the military. I tip my glass to G.I. Basil. truly a five star guy writing a five star book. Go USAF. R. Thomas Roe, Author of The Gaelic Letters.

Unusual in that it was written by one who was there, The River Rat tells of little known, but devistating things a warrior must endure after he is safely home and away from the hell of war. The reader gets the feeling and understanding that not all these fighters are mean, macho, "knock em dead" guys. There is a world of normal folks that are hurting well after the time they spent defending the right to be free.
