Our second volume, reprinting the complete run of Stan Drake s classic American comic strip The Heart of Juliet .

Our second volume, reprinting the complete run of Stan Drake s classic American comic strip The Heart of Juliet Jones. While the reproduction was a bit spotty getting to see the art and read complete stories was well worth the price. The added plus was that these stories serve as an amazing time capsule of small town life in the 1950's. The courtships of Juliet and Eve are always a big topic in these stories. But the politics of the town as Juliet opens a hat shop are intriguing as is the deception when their father is swindled.

Stan Drake and the artist of the Phantom were the first two artists whose work i loved, still holds up today. there's an intro by Bill Sienkiewicz of all people talking about his friendship and love of Drake that's well worth the read. Mostly great looking reprint of this material. Could rate it 5 stars were it not for some personal peeves and because these dailies could have been printed at a little larger size.
Rare
A great window into Drake's artwork prior to his collaboration with Leonard Starr on the Kelly Green series and an excellent companion to reprints of Starr's On Stage strip.

Enjoy.

my only wish is that this was in hardcover; the long floppy format lends itself to having the cover get dogeared and torn. also, commentary at the beginning would have ben nice. not up to par with the comics library (like the rip kirby series) but still 4 stars for content, not presentation.

VERY GOOD PRODUCT, PACKING AND TIME DELIVERY

After reading the somewhat tepid reviews of "Juliet" on Amazon, I feel it's important to acknowledge that yes, this is not a "hardbound IDW reprint" like Rip Kirby. But it isn't junk, either!
The introduction is by Leonard Starr. Armando Mendez has contributed an enlightening essay on Drake and Juliet Jones. The artwork is reproduced nicely and the stories are interesting. Refusing to buy it because it isn't hardbound would be a mistake.
This is a reprint of one of the best of the best. Yes, Kirby is good. So is Alex Raymond. So is Leonard Starr. But Stan Drake is very good, too, and this is a good effort to make his stuff available at a reasonable price.

The art and story art very good, and the quality of the packaging is excellent. Another series worth the price.
