I am a sucker for a free kindle book and this was free at one point. You could tell right away that this was a second or third in a series. It felt like it started in the middle of a story. It was explained well and I never felt lost but it felt like the middle of a book until about the middle of this book. It also didn't feel like a romance until the book was about 70% done. I was interested in the story so I kept reading but normally a book that takes that long to get going I put down. It was an interesting book but if you really feel like reading it I would read the whole series. This book was fast and easy to read. There are a couple of preachy parts but nothing too drawn out or overdone. Very clean with some kissing.

When I look for a great story, I look at several possibilities. This had most of them. Can a woman really heal the wounded heart of a PTSD Civil War returnee? They're already married when the story begins. Can they, will they come together in love?

The one thing I liked about this book is that two levels of PTSD are explored, the psychopathic-paranoic level and the re-living, hard to get past it level. At first you might think, the levels are all in the same character.

Not a bad book, it just didn't wow me. But I would recommend it for those who like to see how love wins over wounded emotions.

Loved and enjoyed it. All about how patience, love, faith and trust in God can heal hearts, especially those who lived trough the horrors of a war. Very good read.

Everything was good.

A super story about how the wounded can be heeled with the right kind of help from those with patience.

Wounded Heart, written by Jennifer A. Davids, is the second book I’ve read by this author and the second book in this series with a three book series in Brides of Ohio.
This book continues within the lives of the Kirby family. In this story we find out about the happenings in Jonah Kirby’s life. Jonah has just returned from war and is having a war within himself every day. He struggles with fears that only those that have gone through war could ever understand…yet a friend from childhood…the friend that married his best friend, Nate…and the friend who had to deal with the death of Nate and figure out life as a widow with a small child—Adela—is the friend that offers an opportunity for Jonah to continue life on his farm rather than in an asylum. Because Jonah has fears, nightmares and has taken up walking everywhere with his gun, his brother, Daniel has decided he may have to commit Jonah to an asylum. Adela asks Jonah to marry her to keep him at home and protect him from himself and the fear others have for him. Secretly Jonah has loved Adela from their childhood, but has had to keep that love within himself because his best friend married her. Now that Nate is dead and Adela is HIS wife…can he figure out his love for her? First he must figure out how to live with the war waging within himself.
Davids once again bring a delightful story that turns its own pages as we just need to find out what is going to happen next with this Kirby family. I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

Although this story was set during the time after the War Between The States, it could be set for all the other wars when soldiers came back with PTSD. Jonah returns from the war with nightmares, paranoia, anger, and distrust of God. My heart went out to him because of the turmoil he can't seem to reconcile in his head. The author captures the confusion, distrust, and agony well. Adele, an unrequited love who married his best friend who never returned from the war, decides to marry him to keep him from being thrown into an asylum. The romance that develops between them is also well written. I am surprised this is not in a Kindle version. Everyone should have a chance to read this book.
My only regret is that I should have read Yankee Heart first ( another book by this author). Next in the series is Restored Heart.
A story of love and redemption.

Jonah comes home from the war scarred from what he saw on the battlefield, Adele agrees to marry Jonah to save him from being carted off to an insane assylum. Can love grow out of the most challenging of circumstances?

A fresh tale, full of wonderfully complex characters, fast paced, with great character interactions, it was hard to believe this was only a novella! There was alot of story packed into a small book, and it was a terrific one to read in one sitting, because it proved very difficult to put down. Easily one of the best novellas I have ever read. I liked how the characters acted rationally for their circumstances.
It's great how much I was able to connect with Adele, because it's not often that I actually like the main character as much as I did.
And I loved how well Ms. David's dealt with the always present question of why bad things happen to good people, and there was just such a great message in the whole arch of the story.
Don't let the length fool you, Wounded Heart is a dynamo of great story telling, love, redemption, and faith.

I won this book, and am reviewing this book simply because I loved it so much!
