Marj Krueger - "Jayge Carr". Possible dreams!" 1940 - 2006. One day she was reading a badly written book. Leviathan's Deep was printed in the US, UK, and France. She tossed it across the room, and said, "I can write a better book than that!" Roger answered, "Then why don't you?" Thus, a challenge was presented, and accepted. Marj subsequently published a trilogy about space travel: Navigator's Sindrome, The Treasure in the Heart of the Maze, and Rabelaisian Reprise. Throughout her career she published over 70 short stories in various anthologies and magazines such as Asimov's, Analog, Amazing and Omni.

Delyafam is our world! And these "human" strangers had best move warily here! I am the Kimassu Lady; my duty is to restore equity. "Madame Judge-and-jury," Neill, the dead Terren walking, calls me. "Grem; policechief." Words. Terre words. Though I have learned their language, I cannot understand them. So many differences: their "technology"; their "war"; their males unnaturally the rulers; their lack of all female virtues, especially honor. Neill claims we are outgunned, outmanned, and outscienced. Worse, my ethical, fiercely conservative people are contemptuous of dangers they cannot understand and will not see; dare I defy...yet I must somehow drive these "guests" who-would-be-conquerors from our blue seas. I restore equity. There--must--be--a--way......a moving fascinating tale of two opposed alien cultures.

Aside from the turn-on I got even at an early age from the idea of a matriarchical world, there is also the story of how two very different societies interact when one of them is attempting to conquer the other. In the alien world the female holds the power and authority and sex is a painful experience for the male, at least his first time. In the human world it is the opposite. And that is the thing that may haunt as you read this. How much of a society is based on the act of sex itself? Is potential pain in sex equal needing to take the submissive role? Anne Bishop's "Black Jewels Trilogy" would say no. By Jayge Carr's books suggests regardless of logic, those in power and authority will find some way to justify it.
The Kimmasu Lady of the House of Morningstar acts as the "terran-expert" judge on her matriarchal ruled world. During her duties, she must fend off the attentions of a terran Admiral fascinated with her unqiue "terran-like" coloring and her exceedingly long life span, unknowing that all females of her species are extremely long lived. But the admiral has a hidden agenda-to locate a human spy who has vital information on how to capture and colonize Kimmasu's planet. Kimmasu finds that she must keep the spy out of the Admiral's hands at all costs. She also realizes she must act inhonorably to save her world when honor is all.
