A Salmon for Simon book. Simon is face to face with the absolute beauty of the Coho Silver Salmon and while captivated by it's sheer grace, has a complete change of heart

A Salmon for Simon book. Simon is face to face with the absolute beauty of the Coho Silver Salmon and while captivated by it's sheer grace, has a complete change of heart. I wont let you die" states Simon and helps the salmon back to the deep endless sea instead of taking it home for supper. Simon finds happiness where he did not expect and decides that although he will fish again it will never be for salmon. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful illustrations and the rich vocabulary throughout the story.

Simon has always longed to catch a salmon. Ann Blades is one of Canada’s leading illustrators. But when his luck suddenly changes and an eagle accidentally drops one into a tidal pool, Simon is torn between sympathy for the fish and the desire to catch something of his own. All summer long, Simon, a young First Nations boy, has been desperate to catch a salmon. Her distinctive watercolors appear in many children’s books, including A Salmon for Simon, which won the Governor General’s Award for Illustration and the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Award; By the Sea: An Alphabet Book, which won the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Award; and A Dog Came, Too by Ainslie Manson.

Simon, a Native American boy, has been trying all summer to catch a salmon. Meadow Mouse Paperback. But when he gets his chance, Simon no longer wants to keep it-it's too strong and beautiful! Full color.

Great book. My son's love the story and I like the pacing.
This was one of my son’s favorites too. I thought about it again when I saw a new book called The Boy and the Whale, which I just bought for my grandson. The story of children empathizing with other creatures and working to save them is moving and inspiring for kids and adults alike. And both have amazing and beautiful illustrations.
This has been one of my favorite books since I was a little kid. Now that I'm of the age that my friends are purposefully having kids of their own, I've started to spread it around. Love this book.
Agreeing with the previous review, I would add that Simon's perceptions, reactions, and actions are realistic for an 8 to 10 year old boy. Also admirable are the low-key presentation of Simon's determination and persistence--just as in the best folk tales he does what he has to do without any self-consciousness of heroism. The illustrations are very expressive but the perspective is a bit shallow--but this won't bother children.
