Beautiful Losers book. leonard cohen has a way with words that can annihilate me. he has a song i cannot even listen to because it takes everything i hate about myself and puts it to music, and it is an exquisite torture i can only permit myself when i am in the blackest of moods. there are portions of this novel that i am in awe of

I may never be able to enjoy Leonard Cohen's music again after reading this book. I would like to think that, since it was written in 1966, he has matured since then

One of the best-known experimental novels of the 1960s, Beautiful Losers is Leonard Cohen’ s most defiant and uninhibited work. As imagined by Cohen, hell is an apartment in Montreal, where a bereaved and lust-tormented narrator reconstructs his relations with the dead. I may never be able to enjoy Leonard Cohen's music again after reading this book. I would like to think that, since it was written in 1966, he has matured since then

Beautiful Losers - Leonard Cohen. Ah, F. smiled, grief makes us precise! So let it be known that the Iroquois, the brethren of Catherine Tekakwitha, were given the name Iroquois by the French.

Beautiful Losers - Leonard Cohen. They called themselves Hodenosaunee, which means People of the Long House.

The extraordinary and inimitable singer-songwriter’s classic novel, this is Leonard Cohen’s most critically acclaimed literary work, echoing the dark poetry and wry humour of his timeless songs of loss, love, sex and religion. Not just an extremely funny novel, but an incredibly original and explicit examination of friendship, sex and spirituality. To read this book, upload an EPUB or FB2 file to Bookmate. One of the strangest and most convoluted pieces of literature I've ever read. Sexual, shocking, vulgar, and above all, thought provoking. It's a book riddled with brilliant philosophy tied in to a questionable dark comedy. Though the B-plot is underwhelming and devoid of anything significant beyond subtle tie ins to the A-plot, the book holds up. It's not for everyone (Weak stomachs steer clear) but it's certainly a must read for anybody looking for a unique and ambitious ride of psychedelics and unexplainably brilliant philosophical points.

Pretty weird. Best part was when the dildo smashed the glass out of the hotel room window and ran away into the lake after a lotta graphic sex-depicting. Too many long, uninteresting passages but I read 'em anyway because Leonard Cohen is Leonard Cohen. And he just died.

Reader beware! You have probably never read anything like this (even if you have). For the self-aware, it will delight you as it enlightens you. For the yet obtuse, steer clear of the horrific accounts of mundane and base humanity. It's one of the best books ever written and should be burned in the south, praised in the west, and yawned over in the east. God bless this man by giving him the life He did and letting us reap in his few words.

I love Leonard Cohen. His songs are among the most beautiful and inspirational I've ever heard. But after about 4 months, I'm only about 80 pages into the book. It just doesn't do it for me. I'd like to read The Favorite Game. I've heard there's an actual storyline. But it's not yet on kindle.

The only book I know that truly depicts the psychedelic era from a first person experience. Makes Ken Kesey's stuff look like a walk in the park.

This little book is full of surprises and wonderful content. One learns more about Cohen's bi-sexuality. One scene involves a crazed drive through the Canadian backlands to reach an urgent destination.
Without spoiling it, you'll find driving has a sexual side too. Reading it is like a time travel to the 50' and 60's. I have read it in fits and starts.

I have seen images in this book I will never, ever forget. This book takes you places you never knew a mind could take you. Some words of Warning, If you are looking for the style Cohen uses while writing his songs, you will not find it here in this book. What you will find is the nightmarish journey of one woman into sainthood, and three people pushing sanity to it's limit. I have to say this is one of the best novels I have ever read. You have to give it at least 50 pages before you start figuring out what's going on. But once the book takes off there's no going back your in for a ride.
Definitely a "stream of consciousness" novel. Probably one of the first ones written. It came out in the sixties.
