From the time I was seven till I was ten, my inseparable playmate was a boy named Bradley whom I admired tremendously. My memories of that period of my life inform my stories about Julian. So does my relationship with my father, who was a showman like Julian's dad.

I have not read this book, but one of my fourth grade students started reading it one day in class, snuck it home with her, stayed up all night reading it, and pronounced it her favorite book the next day.

It's has been very difficult trying to find books for my twin 8yr old daughters.

I wanted a series of books with the star character being an African American girl just having fun and doing kid stuff. A book that will make them know that reading is fun. This book does just that and more.

I am a volunteer in a mostly "white" school with bussed in city "black" children and was trying to connect with my 5th grade female black student. She loves this book and I am planning to get more of those in the series over time. Getting her to take time to read has been a challenge. She can relate to the character and her life. Awesome!

It's so hard to find worthwhile reading for kids that features non-white characters. This author writes with humor and insight, and has been greatly enjoyed by my 9 year old daughter.
