in far better quality than expected, considering that it was a cheap paperback when it was published almost thirty years ago! love the stories. NOT appropriate for kids, though!!
Rose Of Winds
For all the parents of children who love, love, love unicorns -- this is absolutely NOT a book for children! Unfortunately, neither cover hints that this book is completely inappropriate for young readers, and since it is a collection of short stories one finds completely different material depending on which story you happen to flip open if scanning for appropriateness. One describes a bacchanal, not to the point of obscenity but definitely beyond appropriate for the young or sensitive (including plain language explanation of the man-made mythological creatures' genitalia and casual reference to "coupling"). Another describes physical abuse inflicted on one character by another and alludes to a rape without specifically describing it. That said, my almost 18 year old daughter and I enjoyed it to a degree -- many of the stories are quite dark and some of the endings are not quite satisfying. On more than one occasion my daughter's reaction at the end of one was "that's it?" These are definitely unique stories, not your usual unicorn pablum, so if you like a different twist on old lore you might really enjoy them.
