I'll Walk Alone book. Higgins Clark does not repeat characters, but her strong leading women are almost interchangeable: brilliant lawyer, dedicated doctor, passionate marketer, etc.

Rebecca Schwartz’s thoughts were glum as she sat in her office and stared out at the street. The windows were filled with taped pictures of houses for sale. The smallest, dingiest Cape Cod was depicted in the flyers she tacked up around town, as cozy, intimate, and utterly charming.

I’LL WALK ALONE, a novel, by Mary Higgins Clark. The first part of the book is routine and a bit boring but Clark energizes it as the story progresses. Alexandra (Zan) Moreland, an up-and-coming New York City interior designer, has been accused of kidnapping her own three-year-old son. Even the wealthy father who Zan divorced eventually comes to that conclusion based on undeniable evidence. Zan experiences spurious charges to her financial accounts. Strange un-ordered packages turn up on her doorstep. She eventually comes to the conclusion that her former boss, owner of the top interior design firm in the N.Y. City, must be behind the strange goings-on including the abduction of her son. She knows that he was upset that she left his firm and that she rejected his amorous advances while his employee and is now his number one competitor in the City. Soon with overwhelming evidence mounting even Zan’s closest friends find it hard to believe she is innocent. She has recurring fainting and blackout episodes and begins to think she may be going mad. But one new friend stands beside her. The story has several cliffhanger moments but for the most part it is a steady whodunit mystery. The ending is a tear-jerker.
I enjoyed the read and give it 4-stars.

mary Higgins clark demonstrates in this novel her literary power to create extraordinarily powerful scenes. the plot involving the kinapping of a child by a woman posing as a mother and her mysterious confession to a priest are unforgettable images The last chapters of the book are beautiful.

The constant changing of characters made the book more thrilling but I kept having to read over who was speaking. Loved it, I couldn’t put it down.

Just what I expected from Mary Higgins Clark. A mystery that will keep you turning the pages, sure you have it figured out, only to discover a twist at the end! Clean read, very little foul language, nothing sexual in the book.

It's been awhile since I've read anything by this author and I'm not sure why. She develops her characters with such skill, you can't help but be drawn into their lives. She even makes the "bad guys" look good and she keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

As usual, her stories catch your attention from the very start! Makes you feel like you are witnessing it. She does not fill her pages with descriptive love scenes that I do not want to read and skip over, what a waste of time! She brings on characters to enrich her stories from former novel that gives a sense of continuity.

First I have to say Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors. I was looking forward to reading this book. When I read it I kept checking the front of the book to make sure I was reading Mary Higgins Clark. I don't know if it was me or what but this book seemed disjointed to me and, like I said, it didn't read like a Mary Higgins Clark book. I felt like an idiot checking to see if I'd purchased the correct author. It's just that I have read almost ALL of her books and this is the first one I read that is not even close to a five star read.
I purchased I'll Walk Alone from Amazon and downloaded it to my Kindle2. It was a real page turner and had me hooked from the first chapter to the end. It was full of interesting twists and turns as only Mary Higgens Clark can do. I was up until way past midnight to finish it. My favorite books are mysteries especially those that keep you guessing until the last chapter. I also like books that keep you on the edge of your seat without all of the gory, graphic details. If you're looking for a good read, I would recommend books by Mary Higgens Clark. If you haven't purchased a Kindle yet - do it! It really is the best thing since "sliced bread!"
