The combi-van surged past the soldier. For a moment it was clear of him and free. Locked in Caleb's hand, the wallet was unseen, unfelt.
The unknown soldier, . The Unknown Soldier, . The combi-van surged past the soldier.
The Unknown Soldier, my first Gerald Seymour book, really exceeded my exceptions. The characters are very finely crafted, and are used to enhance the plot in a suspenseful manner. The storyline switches perspectives from characters often, which I strongly prefer when reading thrillers, because I enjoy predicting how multiple perspectives will unexpectedly conclude. Especially in this novel due to the anti-hero's extreme devotion to journey across the Rub' al Khali for his "family"(Al Qaeda). He was drawn towards the chasm. The voice was at his back, the chasm was ahead of him. Each time he stared into the chasm, he wavered.
He was drawn towards the chasm. Each time he stared into the chasm, he wavered oice behind him was more demanding. The last time he approached the chasm, his stride quickened. He ran, launched, his feet kicking. He hung in the air. A chill seemed to grip him. He would not reach the far side of the chasm. The moon's light hovered on the far rim. He heard his own cry for help.

Gerald Seymour is up to his usual "who will win" tricks in this marvelous story of the West versus Al-Quaida. The story line is plucked directly from the London bombings of July, 2005, but as Tom Clancy predicted events and methodology before 9-11, so does Seymour in "The Unknown Soldier". This book was written before more than 300 were killed or wounded on the London Transit System by suicide bombers who were British-born. That event makes this book all the more shocking. Do you have enough hate?" Caleb is asked.
